Looking back in time to 2004, I am revisiting the New Paltz scandal of same sex marriages. Jason West, the former mayor of this little town, rebelled against the law by performing 25 ceremonies outside of the Village Hall. Many cheered, while many others rebelled against this event. Looking back into time, who was there and what was your opinion of this moment in time?
It's crazy seeing how many people were there at the weddings and cheering them on. It frustrates me that just because some people have a problem with gays and lesbians, that others are prevented from being happy with the ones they love.
As elected officials, shouldn't they follow the laws of the state? If they don't agree with the law, maybe they should work to change the law, not break it.
I think that his head was completely in the correct place and that his argument for it is much truer than those made against him. The laws are gender-neutral, the traditional way of going about things may not be but when it comes down to it they are traditions, not laws. The officials that are in place and in opposition need to follow the law and not tradition. If we followed tradition so strongly with everything, it'd still be illegal to cut your hair (bible) or illegal to marry someone of a different race
this was really interesting!
